Virginia Food & Wine Fest – December 10!

Howdy folks!

We’re finally rounding the bend into that holiday season / gift buying / family wranglin’ stretch. Well, here at Well Hung Vineyard, we’d like to make things a little easier for ya- on December 10th, pile the family into the car and head out to the Farm Bureau Center at Meadow Event Park, just outside of Richmond, in Doswell, Virginia. There will be gifts to be bought, local, specialty foods to be consumed, and, of course, we’ll be there, with our wine and goods, helping you get a jump on that holiday cheer. The festival’s site claims that they’re limiting the number of tickets sold to 5,000, so you’ll want to get your tickets well in advance. (How about right now!?)

I’m going to straight-up copy and paste this from their site, but here are some of the fun things you can expect at the festival:

-Salsas
-Rum pralines
-Biscotti
-Pound cakes
-Cooking sauces
-Spices
-Cheeses
-Brunswick stew
-Meats direct off the farm
-Seafood
-Holiday décor
-Specialty Gifts
-Plus, 15 Virginia wineries !!!!!!!!

(Emphasis mine)

Hope you can make it out!

Cheers!

Virginia Christmas Market – Nov. 11-13 (Doswell, Richmond Area)

Hey there!

We have another pouring/selling extravaganza outside of Richmond in Doswell next weekend, Friday through Sunday, November 11-13. The event (The Virginia Christmas Market [I initially Googled "Virginia Holiday Market", bein' all politically correct, but no, it's the Christmas Market]) goes down at the Farm Bureau Center at Meadow Event Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. We’ll have all of our wine and merch with us, giving out tastes, and generally having a ball. Word is that this event is huuuuge, so if you enjoy crafts or Well Hung wine, you can’t miss it.

Festival season is winding down- there won’t be many more chances to see us between now and the holidays, so this is the perfect opportunity to stock up on Well Hung wine for yourself and get all the elusive gifts you need for those fun-loving friends and family members.

By the way, have we mentioned that the 2010 Well Hung Viognier goes exquisitely with Turkey?

Cheers!

Winchester Hot Air Balloon and Wine Festival – October 14 – 16

Hey Northern Virginians! Don’t bother getting up, we’re coming to you!

This weekend, October 14th and 15th, is the Hot Air Balloon and Wine Festival in Winchester! We’ve never done the event before, but we’ve heard great things and we’re thrilled to be involved. The tastings kick off on Friday evening from 4 to 8, and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 19 local vineyards and wineries will be there; a tasting is $15 in advance or $20 at the door – well worth it for both the quantity and quality of what you’ll be getting.

Hope to see a lot of you out there! The weather should make this the second beautiful festival weekend in a row, so don’t miss it!

Cheers!

Well Hung Festival Weekend – Montpelier and Crozet!

Hey folks! This weekend is going to be huuuge, and we hope as many of you as possible can see us at one of the two festivals we’re attending!

One of our favorite twice-a-year events is this Saturday and Sunday, May 7th and 8th – the Crozet Arts & Crafts Festival. Pick up some art (or crafts!) for Mother’s Day (you didn’t forget, did you?) along with your bottle of wine! All of our varietals will be for sale, and many will be available for tasting. Our full line up of shirts, hats, aprons, posters, yada yada yada, will also be for sale and on display. Just look for our spokesmannequin, Richard. (He’s the one who’s a mannequin.)

Also this weekend is what may very well be our biggest festival to date. The Montpelier Wine Festival is Saturday and Sunday and features 24 Virginia vineyards and wineries, demonstrations on cooking with food and wine, music, artisans, and kites! Honestly, I’m not sure what the kites are about, but the website says they’ll be there and I think it’s pretty exciting. There’s still time to buy a ticket in advance for $15, but they’re just $25 at the door – well worth the quality of the event.

It’s going to be a beautiful weekend, so get out and enjoy some wine. Crozet, Montpelier, your back yard, wherever, as long as it’s Well Hung.

Cheers!

Two Events Saturday – Farmville & Roanoke!

The Well Hung crew is hitting this road this weekend in order to bring wine to our friends in Farmville and Roanoke!

This Saturday, April 16th, Well Hung Vineyard will be in Farmville at their eponymous Wine Festival, in addition to Roanoke where we will be pouring wine at one of Mr. Bill’s Cellar tasting events. (Speaking of events, here’s a link to it on Facebook!)

The Farmville Wine Festival features over a dozen local wineries, crafters, and food vendors. Check it out at the Riverfront Park from 11:00 – 5:00 for just $15.

The fun at Mr. Bill’s starts at noon and lasts until 5 – there will be music, there will be Well Hung wine, and Mr. Bill himself is taking the helm at the grill.

Hope to see you at one of these great events! Cheers!

Charlottesville Holiday Market

Well hello!

Tomorrow, December 4th, is the first of our three week stint at the Charlottesville Holiday Market. This is a really fun, annual gathering – the December stretch of the Charlottesville City Market – a fantastic place to start (and finish?) picking up some holiday gifts. As always, the market is held in the City Market Parking lot on E Water Street, 212 2nd St SW, from 8 AM – 2 PM. We will have our booth with wine available for taste and purchase, and plenty of shirts, sweaters, aprons, etc. to cover yourself and loved ones. Look for us tomorrow, and on the 11th and 18th.

If you want to check out the City Market on Facebook, go ahead.
And if you wanna check us out on Facebook, that’d be great!

And if you’re not able to make it to the market, you can always get our goods online!

Cheers!

If you’re going to San Francisco… [stop by the MOMA!]

When one thinks of Well Hung wine, which words come to mind? Bawdy? Probably. Delicious? Absolutely. Culturally significant? Well, that one seems like a stretch. At least, any one of us would have said so. But then the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art came calling.

In an exhibit running from Nov. 20 – Apr. 17, the SFMOMA displays “How Wine Became Modern“, a collection of significant wine artifacts, multimedia presentations, and contemporary labels, which place the wine industry in today’s cultural context as it has developed since 1976 when the earth-shaking Judgment of Paris rated Californian wines above France’s in a blind tasting.

One of the highlights of the exhibit, designed by the New York architecture studio Diller Scofidio and Renfro, is a wall of wine, “Labels and Storytelling”, featuring 200 labels. The diverse collection of bottles is arranged categorically, each one subsumed by a branching genre of associative qualities attributable to the label’s story and brand identity. And lo! What bottle do I spy there that is both “Cheeky” and “Sex”?

We could hardly believe that our little label was deemed museum-worthy, but we excitedly shipped a bottle out to San Francisco a few months ago and waited for its moment in the spotlight.. er.. track lighting.

One of Well Hung’s owners, artiste Tracy Verkerke, and her daughter Therese, took a very serious, professional-like, trip out to San Francisco last weekend for the opening and snapped the great pictures you’ve seen in this post.

We’re honored to have been selected as a part of this ground breaking exhibit. If you want to learn more about it, check out the page on SFMOMA’s website, here. We were titillated to see a specific, albeit brief, mention in the San Francisco Station, which recently wrote about the show: “One of the highlights of the exhibit, the art of the wine label, features nearly 200 wine bottles suspended in rows against a white backdrop. Categorized by similar concepts and images, such as ‘Good + Evil’ and ‘Truth or Consequences,’ the label art illustrates how wine has taken on attributes far beyond just the wine itself. My favorite section is ‘Cheeky,’ which features humorous labels such as ‘Well Hung’ and ‘Fat Bastard.’” How cool!

If you want to see some more pictures from Tracy and Therese’s trip, there’s a whole album on our Facebook page devoted to it.

And remember, Californians: yours is one of the few states to which we can actually ship wine. So if you see us on the wall and want to actually know what’s inside the bottle, go ahead and order one (or five!) from our online store.

Cheers!

A Taste for the Holidays in Ivy

Whether you’re looking for a wine to gift this season or a delicious conversation piece to adorn your table, Well Hung wine has you covered.

This weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 21st and 22nd, we’ll be having a home-town tasting in Ivy at the Ivy Store from 2 – 6 each afternoon. Come and enjoy a taste of our fine wines, or buy a glass to sip while you shop. Of course, we will also be selling wine by the bottle as well as our whole array of clothes, magnets, sacks, what have you! And don’t forget to stay until dark on Sunday when the holiday season is officially signaled, for me at least, by the annual illuminating of the Ivy Store’s gorgeous roof-top light display!

See you there!
Cheers!

PS: While you’re in the spirit, I want to share a delightful photo sent in by a Well Hung fan…

Huggin' a bottle for Christmas has never looked cuter!
