Upcoming April Events

Hey folks!

First, I want to say hello to all of the many fantastic people we have met at festivals so far this year. We were pretty busy right out of the gate in 2012, but things are slowing down a little bit as spring arrives and our efforts turn to the grape-growing instead of the (much loved) grape-consuming. But that’s not to say we won’t be out there meeting, greeting, and pouring! Here are the two events we have scheduled for the month of April:

Friday, April 6th – We will be pouring our wine for the “Our Common Landscape” opening, a First Friday event at the WVTF and Radio IQ Studio Gallery at 216 West Water St, in Charlottesville, from 5-7. I’ve never poured at a First Friday, but I’ve attended plenty, and they’re a blast. And in addition to seeing many of you there, personally, I’m looking forward to hearing our local DJs say who’s providing wine for the event on air all afternoon with a straight face. Should make for great radio!

Saturday, April 28th – The Fork & Cork festival in Blacksburg. We had fun at the Fork and Cork last year, but didn’t quite anticipate how large the crowd was going to be. This year we’ll be back with even more of our fine Well Hung pourers in tow, so let’s hope for short lines and long tastings. The Fork and Cork is great though, because even when you’re not tasting, something incredible to nibble on is close at hand.

That’s all we have lined up for April so far. Check back though- we have a lot of festivals and events as we get closer to summer, and if anything pops up on short notice, we’ll post it here. And on Facebook. And Twitter.

Cheers!

Spring Has Arrived

Just as we finished clearing our old wood, spring arrived at Well Hung Vineyard and the buds began to burst [insert witty birds and bees pun here]. In fact, we are running about 1-2 weeks ahead of schedule which means our 2012 vintage will be in your glass shorter (barring frost, random diseases, deer, birds, Occupy Well Hung campers, and the much maligned late summer hurricanes).

We were going to wait and tell you about our most recent bottling but there is no better way to welcome the summer temperatures than grabbing a bottle of our 2011 Virginia Viognier and firing up some crab cakes. After reaching a tender bottle age of 4 days we sampled the Viognier and are confident we’ve got another winner on our hands; if we get a chance to enter it in a competition before it sells out (or we end up drinking it ourselves). The screw caps make indulging a little too convenient.

We’re Totally Blushing

The calender claims it’s still January, but, much like the central Virginian weather, things are really heatin’ up at Well Hung Vineyard. Last week we finished bottling the 2011 Blush, and ladies and gentleman, we can’t wait to get it to you. It’s like a summer sunset in a bottle.

The 2011 Well Hung Blush has some fun features- a redesigned label, a lighter EcoSeries bottle made of 50% recycled glass, manufactured with a 29% smaller carbon footprint, and, probably most exciting for y’all, screw caps, so you can enjoy it [responsibly!] anywhere without having to track down that corkscrew.

The new Blush won’t be in stores for about a month still, but it will make its debut in just over two weeks at the Virginia Wine Showcase in Crystal City, February 18th and 19th. The 2009 Blush went just a little too fast; we’re hoping that the 207 cases o’ ’11 that we just finished will allow everybody to get their fill!

Cheers!

International Gold Medal Winner: the 2010 Well Hung Viognier

We’re swelling a bit with pride over here at Well Hung Vineyard. The results of the International Women’s Wine Competition were announced today and Well Hung Vineyard’s 2010 Virginia Viognier won a gold medal! Goooooold! We’re absolutely thrilled to have the quality of our wine recognized by such an esteemed group of women and wine enthusiasts.

Cheers everybody, and have a fantastic Thanksgiving. (Remember earlier when I said that our Viognier goes great with Turkey? I hope you have a bottle in the cellar somewhere! Or order a bottle online now and have it on hand for one of the other significant holidays we have comin’ right up!)

Virginia Food & Wine Fest – December 10!

Howdy folks!

We’re finally rounding the bend into that holiday season / gift buying / family wranglin’ stretch. Well, here at Well Hung Vineyard, we’d like to make things a little easier for ya- on December 10th, pile the family into the car and head out to the Farm Bureau Center at Meadow Event Park, just outside of Richmond, in Doswell, Virginia. There will be gifts to be bought, local, specialty foods to be consumed, and, of course, we’ll be there, with our wine and goods, helping you get a jump on that holiday cheer. The festival’s site claims that they’re limiting the number of tickets sold to 5,000, so you’ll want to get your tickets well in advance. (How about right now!?)

I’m going to straight-up copy and paste this from their site, but here are some of the fun things you can expect at the festival:

-Salsas
-Rum pralines
-Biscotti
-Pound cakes
-Cooking sauces
-Spices
-Cheeses
-Brunswick stew
-Meats direct off the farm
-Seafood
-Holiday décor
-Specialty Gifts
-Plus, 15 Virginia wineries !!!!!!!!

(Emphasis mine)

Hope you can make it out!

Cheers!

Virginia Christmas Market – Nov. 11-13 (Doswell, Richmond Area)

Hey there!

We have another pouring/selling extravaganza outside of Richmond in Doswell next weekend, Friday through Sunday, November 11-13. The event (The Virginia Christmas Market [I initially Googled "Virginia Holiday Market", bein' all politically correct, but no, it's the Christmas Market]) goes down at the Farm Bureau Center at Meadow Event Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. We’ll have all of our wine and merch with us, giving out tastes, and generally having a ball. Word is that this event is huuuuge, so if you enjoy crafts or Well Hung wine, you can’t miss it.

Festival season is winding down- there won’t be many more chances to see us between now and the holidays, so this is the perfect opportunity to stock up on Well Hung wine for yourself and get all the elusive gifts you need for those fun-loving friends and family members.

By the way, have we mentioned that the 2010 Well Hung Viognier goes exquisitely with Turkey?

Cheers!

Hey folks!

Another weekend is coming up, which means that team Well Hung wine will be hitting the road again! It’s not a long trip for us this week- up to Booster Park in Orange for the newly renamed and reconceptualized Wine, Wings, and Wheels festival. This weekend, October 22 and 23, from 11 – 5 both days, Well Hung Vineyard and 13 others will be tasting wine, microbrews, checkin’ out antique cars and planes, and, well, a whole bunch more. Check out the flier! Tickets are $12 in advance and $20 at the door, so it definitely pays to plan in advance and get your tickets now!

Cheers!

Winchester Hot Air Balloon and Wine Festival – October 14 – 16

Hey Northern Virginians! Don’t bother getting up, we’re coming to you!

This weekend, October 14th and 15th, is the Hot Air Balloon and Wine Festival in Winchester! We’ve never done the event before, but we’ve heard great things and we’re thrilled to be involved. The tastings kick off on Friday evening from 4 to 8, and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 19 local vineyards and wineries will be there; a tasting is $15 in advance or $20 at the door – well worth it for both the quantity and quality of what you’ll be getting.

Hope to see a lot of you out there! The weather should make this the second beautiful festival weekend in a row, so don’t miss it!

Cheers!

Ending “The Blog” Hiatus

Sorry, everyone, for neglecting this part of the website for so long. Lately, all of the words I’ve been putting forth on the internet have been to our Twitter and Facebook page. But this space here is important – I promise to be better about posting upcoming events well before they happen and broadcasting recent product releases (like the 2010s we’re putting online very soon) using “the blog”.

Thanks for stickin’ with us. Thanks for swingin’ by. And, of course, thanks for enjoying the Well Hung wine.

Cheers!
